VAMPIRE LESBIANS OF SODOM

DEC 27, 2013 - JAN 4, 2014
JAN 24, 2014 - FEB 15, 2014
APR 11, 2014 - APR 12, 2014 (Art Scene)

WRITTEN BY Charles Busch
DIRECTED BY Mike Werckle

Vampire Lesbians of Sodom is the play that started it all at The West Side Show Room!  We rented a crappy retail space, painted it black, made a set out of cardboard, pulled some costumes from our closets and the rest is history! Originally slated to open December 20, 2013, a blizzard forced us to cancel the first weekend, but we opened to huge acclaim the next Friday, December 27, 2013. We extended the initial run by four weeks, and performed two free shows to capacity crowds during The Rockford Area Arts Council's Spring Art Scene event that April.

Vampire Lesbians of Sodom tells the saga of two fatally seductive vampiresses whose paths first collide in ancient Sodom. Their bitter rivalry as bloodsuckers but more importantly, as actresses, endures for two thousand years with stops along the way in 1920’s silent movie Hollywood and contemporary Las Vegas. With outrageous humor, flamboyant cross-dressing, and ridiculous sight-gags, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom is a satire of Hollywood stardom done in a burlesque comedy style.

Vampire Lesbians of Sodom was produced at The West Side Show Room's original theater space at 410 Mulberry Street in Rockford. Busch's short play Sleeping Beauty, or Coma was presented as a double bill during Vampire Lesbians of Sodom's initial run, December 27 - January 4.

“It’s different! It’s daring! It’s hilariously camp, and sometimes downright crude. It’s raucous and completely over the top. It pulls no punches. But it is funny!”
— Bill Beard, The Rock River Times
“To West Side Show Room, above all I say thank you! Yes, with an exclamation point. I hope you will continue to present shows as funny as this one was.”
— James Castree, examiner.com
